About VAX

VAX, Vox Hacks, is Vox Product’s annual gathering of the product, design and technology teams for a week of exploration, creation and skill-building in a “hackathon” style event. Leading up to VAX, participants self organize around projects they pitch Projects range from creating software tools, creating or improving processes, building new products and apps, poster and book designs and staff experience projects like an “internal survival kit.” There are no limits on project ideas. VAX embodies the spirit of cross-discipline collaboration, exploring future technologies and solutions, and the thrill of turning an idea into something real, all in a matter of days.

VAX History

VAX was created by a former product team member who wanted to use his Professional Development funds to work on an independent project. He envisioned working heads down on the project for a couple of days and then emerging to share what he had learned with his team. Trei Brundrett loved the idea and asked that it be shared with other team members as an optional pro dev activity. Before they knew it, the whole team wanted in and VAX was born. Since then, even in its different forms, VAX has become a tradition for the product team to celebrate what it means to work on a product team; it’s about creativity, collaboration, smart planning and thoughtful execution. To see what we’ve created over the years, check out all of our previous VAX blog posts.

Denver

This year, VAX takes us to Denver, also known as, “The Mile High City”. It was founded in the late 1850’s during America’s rush to the west to find land, gold and a new way of life. The city sits exactly one mile above sea level, hence its nickname. Contemporary Denver is filled with outdoor lovers (it gets 300 days of sun throughout the year!), music and art enthusiasts, beer connoisseurs and sports fans. It has one of the largest downtowns in America and is only a short distance from the Rocky Mountains. As the location for our team’s 2019 VAX, we hope there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy!

Venue

Main Venue - Kimpton Hotel Born

Vax will be hosted at The Kimpton Hotel Born, located in the downtown neighborhood of “LoDo” -- Denver’s oldest neighborhood. Literally steps away from Union Station, it’ll be an easy commute to and from the airport, and it’s a central location to most social activities in the city (meaning walking distance!).

For “hacking” time, we’re bringing us all together again into one grand room that features a patio area with views over the downtown. We’ll have a couple of other small breakout rooms and you, of course, will be welcome to use other main spaces in the hotel.

The Kimpton Born Hotel will also serve as the single lodging space for all VAX attendees. When you register for the event you’ll mark your check-in and out dates and Ashley will send you a confirmation email closer to the date to confirm your room booking. This means you do not need to book your own hotel room through Egencia.
